9th RMLNLU-Khaitan & Co International Legal Essay Competition and Conference

In collaboration with Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia National Law University Journal Committee (“Committee”), Lucknow (“RMLNLU”), Khaitan & Co, RMLNLU is hosting the 9th edition of the International Legal Essay Competition and Labor Law Conference “RILEC”). The conference will be held in practice 25M February A. 5:00 pm Upstairs Zoom The platform will be provided with all registered participants Certificate of Attendance.

About events

As per the call of the papers published in September 2021, the committee has received numerous submissions from reputed law schools across India. After conducting a series of reviews jointly with Khaitan & Co, three research papers were selected for presentation at the Virtual Conference. The papers selected for presentation are:
Written by Abanti Deshpande The basis of ‘invisible labor force and’ productive economy ‘: Recognition of women’s unpaid labor.
‘Strengthening the socially informed model of arbitration under the Industrial Code, 2020: A constructive critique’ by Aryan Mohan and Ananya Chitranur.
‘A Gig-Antique Step Towards a Labor-Friendly India: Expanding Social Security to Gig Workers’ by Mehak Jain.
The above mentioned presentations will be evaluated by a panel of eminent judges of Khaitan & Co. The presentation will be followed by a round of questions that will help participants better understand the latest developments in employment and labor law. The committee considers the event an effort to encourage and promote legal scholarship in the field of employment and labor law.

About the Journal Committee

The committee was formed to promote legal research and writing. In addition to conducting the RMLNLU International Legal Essay Competition each year, the Committee publishes two equivalent review journals each year – the RMLNLU Law Review and the RMLNLU Journal on CMET (Communication, Media, Entertainment and Technology) Law. Both journals publish articles, essays, case notes / reviews and book reviews from contributors around the world. RMLNLU Law Review also runs a blog that provides a platform for people in the field to express their views on contemporary legal issues.

About the judges

Mr. Anshul Prakash A partner in Khaitan & Co’s Mumbai office and leads the firm’s employment, labor and benefits practice. He advises a number of prominent domestic and international clients on numerous employment laws and related issues such as workforce management, social security, industrial relations, harassment and discrimination in the workplace, structural benefits and incentives, health and safety, internal search and workforce restructuring.

He also spearheaded the firm’s thinking on advocacy and knowledge sharing in employment and labor law, and actively shared insights into the development of employment and labor law at public speaking events organized by various industry publications, print media, and industry bodies.

Mr. Life is Vallabh Panda Partner of the Dispute Resolution and Employment, Labor and Facilities Practice Group at the NCR Office. She brings with her more than 13 years of experience, including a focus on commercial litigation, arbitration and employment. He is also listed as an arbitrator in the Delhi International Arbitration Center (DIAC).

Mr. Life focuses on complex civil and contractual disputes, commercial litigation and arbitration, and related pre-litigation counseling. Mr. Life regularly argues on various issues before the court and the arbitral tribunal. Most recently, Mr. Jeevan has successfully worked for MNCs and PSUs in high-partnership arbitration and against government agencies and private parties, and among private players, particularly in the railways, construction, infrastructure, power, and hospitality sectors.

Mr. Jeevan is also a Labor and Employment Advisor and Senior Management Contemplator in lawsuits related to contracts and withdrawals, disciplinary / domestic searches, sexual harassment in the workplace, restructuring and trade union issues, and compliance with various labor laws related to social security benefits. Most recently, Mr. Jeevan successfully represented MNC in civil cases against trade unions disrupting business activities through strikes and anti-social activities, and in writ petitions and quasi-judicial proceedings relating to the search and release of high-stakes futures funds.

Mr. Deepak Kumar Partner of Employment, Labor and Benefit Practice Group in Mumbai Office. Mr. Deepak has consulted and assisted multinational and domestic clients on various contentious and non-controversial employment and labor issues, managing staff and facilities, managing industrial relations, entry and exit strategies in India, closure, size reduction, and staff transfers under M&A transactions. And restructuring internal business, among others. Mr. Deepak also specializes in advising offshore clients on entry strategy for India, business setup and staff engagement in India, and implementation of global ESOPs and other incentive and benefit plans. Mr. Deepak is a regular speaker at leading industry bodies and regulatory and policy development forums. He contributed to the trends in the field of employment law and spoke in the session on various aspects of employment and labor law.
