(Hollywood, California) – Rusty cinematographer Halina Hutchins’ lawyer called Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin for a “shameful” attempt to avoid responsibility for his tragic shooting. Baldwin Rust filed a lawsuit seeking compensation for all costs and damages associated with the fatal shooting of the movie set.
Hutchins’ lawyer said: “Alec Baldwin is again trying to avoid liability and accountability for his reckless actions before October 21, which resulted in the death of Halina Hutchins, as demonstrated by today’s arbitration claim for compensation from the Rust Productions Company.
“The disclosure of Baldwin’s personal text with Matt Hutchins is irrelevant to his arbitration claim and his engagement to Baldwin fails to demonstrate anything other than Hutchins’ dignity.”
“It’s a shame that Baldwin claims that the process of filing an unjust death of Hutchins derailed Rust’s termination. The only action that ended the production of the film was the murder of Halina Hutchins by Baldwin,” the lawyer said.
Baldwin’s arbitration claims: “At the moment, two things are clear: someone is responsible for chambering the live round that led to this horrific tragedy and it is someone other than Baldwin.”
“Baldwin is an actor. He did not announce that the gun was ‘cold’ when it was really a live round; he did not load the gun; he did not check the bullets of the gun; he did not buy bullets; He was not in charge of firearms security; he did not hire people who supplied bullets or tested guns; and he did not play a role in directing movie props. Each of these tasks was performed by someone else. “
Baldwin is trying to claim that any dispute is required to be mediated by the producer agreement. And he says a clause in his contract relieves him of any financial obligations, including legal fees.
“Reid did not instruct Baldwin to examine the gun,” wrote Baldwin’s attorney Luke Nikas. “Actually, he told Baldwin that it was his job to test the gun – not his.”
“This is a rare instance when the system breaks down, and someone should be legally blamed for the tragic consequences,” Nikas wrote.
“That person is not Alec Baldwin.”
Baldwin was then seen blaming the victim. The filing claims that Hutchins told him about the location of the gun:
He instructed Baldwin to hold the gun high, where it was aimed at him.
“He looked intently at the monitor and then at Baldwin and then came back again, just as he had instructed.”
“In providing and following these instructions, Hutchins and Baldwin shared an original, vital belief: that gun was ‘cold’ and had no live rounds.”
Filing continues:
“As he did throughout his career, Baldwin trusted other professionals on the set to do their job.
“As of October 21, Baldwin had never been involved in a security breach on a movie or film set, and he had safely operated firearms and other weapons without incident on at least a dozen film and television projects:
The Hunt for Red October,
Miami blues,
Getaway,
Shadows,
Prisoners of heaven,
Juror,
Edge,
Thick as a thief,
Mission Impossible: Fallout.
