The proposed Democrat law in Maryland would allow the killing of children within 28 days

(Annapolis, Maryland) – According to an analysis by a pro-life attorney, Maryland Senate law would allow babies to die within 28 days of birth.

The Freedom of Pregnancy Act of 2022 is also known as Senate Bill 669. However, the problem goes beyond using the word “person” in place of the correct reference to pregnant women.

Not sure why we need to mention a simple word for who might get pregnant

The bill, sponsored by Democrat Senator William Smith, will be heard March 15.

“[T]He also proposed an amendment to the feticide / homicide law that would address the issue of child mortality not related to abortion, “wrote Olivia Summers, an attorney for the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ).

The law prohibits women and medical professionals from being investigated and prosecuted for “failure to act” in relation to “maternity deaths.”

“In other words, a living and well-born child can be abandoned and left to starve or freeze to death,” Summers wrote, “and nothing can be done to punish those who took part in that cruel death.”

In his view, the language of the law is vague, so it can be interpreted as a law that “prevents the investigation of deaths of children at least seven days after birth and extends to infants as young as four weeks!”

The Maryland Code does not define “perinatal”, Summers said. A law passed in 2020 defines “perinatal care” as prenatal, labor, childbirth and postpartum and neonatal care.

WebMD’s MedicineNet, a website owned by WebMD, defines it as “between the 20th and 28th week of pregnancy” and “between 1 and 4 weeks after delivery”.

Similarly, the city of Portland, Oregon, was the first to allow government employees to have their pay cut off after an abortion. As a result of a unanimous decision by Portland City Council earlier this month, the city’s mourning holiday policy has been updated.

Among the benefits available to government employees are mourning leave in case of loss of pregnancy, such as loss during abortion, stillbirth, termination and fertility treatment.

In this example, “termination” probably means abortion for a reason, such as a serious genetic defect, or some other trauma that prevents the fetus from surviving.

However, it is not difficult to see how this can be abused.

Oregonian reports that members of Portland City Council began examining mourning leave policy last summer when workers complained that they did not feel able to represent or take leave under the old policy.

Prior to its recent amendment, the policy only granted paid leave to persons biologically or legally related to the deceased.
