Today, NBC’s “Putin’s price increase” lie has pushed the biden spin

Friday, NBC’s Today The show spurred the White House spin that months of record-high inflation and rising gas prices were somehow exclusively due to the two-week-old war in Ukraine rather than the bad economic policies of the Biden administration. The coverage even repeats the phrase “Putin’s price rise” to make the president’s dishonest point of view sound word for word.

“It simply came to our notice then. With rising inflation and gas prices, Americans are paying more. Co-host Savannah Guthrie announced that she was trying to integrate long-term rising prices with the recent war in Europe. In a subsequent report, correspondent Morgan Chesky responsibly repeated Biden’s deceptive political message:

This morning, the new inflation figures confirm the fight facing millions of Americans … The biggest drivers behind the highest rise in inflation in four decades are fuel, food and shelter. The Consumer Price Index report shows an increase of 7.9% over last year. And in Washington, the Biden administration acknowledges that it could get worse before it gets worse, blaming Putin’s war in Ukraine as a major contributor.

The president ran a soundbite announcing: “The American people know how important this fight is. I think they know the cost is going to be even higher if we don’t take action now to deal with this oppressor who is as painful as today’s price. “

Despite knowing NBC better, no attempt was made to verify the truth at all. On thursday Night news, Correspondent Joe Ling Kent actually provided some important context: “But prices rose before Russia invaded Ukraine last month. And inflation has risen above five percent since last May.

Why did Friday’s Network Morning Show suddenly choose to drop those key details?

Appearing again Today is the 3rd hour At 9:00 am ET, Chesky said: “… the Biden administration is calling it a ‘Putin price hike’, and as this war continues, there will be a significant impact going forward.” It follows co-host Craig Melvin’s lead role:

Meanwhile, that war in Ukraine has had a profound effect on the home here, where almost everything nowadays costs more, in some cases much more.…. So, the Morgan, Biden administration has acknowledged that inflation could actually get worse before it gets better? Do we know how bad it is? And do we know the driving force behind this price increase?

A few minutes later, after allowing Chesky to lie to the White House, Melvin briefly mentioned: “And here’s the thing, I mean, we were feeling the effects of inflation before the war.” Not exactly a pointed fact check.

Even former adviser to the Obama administration and current MSNBC economic analyst Steve Ratner has called Biden’s lies. On Twitter on Thursday, Ratner threatened the president: “Well, no. This includes February’s # and only small Russia influence. It’s Biden’s inflation and he has to own it.”

Thursday, CBS Morning February was the only network morning show for live coverage of the inflation report, where business analyst Jill Schlesinger specifically explained: “It was, of course, most of the time before Russia invaded Ukraine, so we don’t even count.”

This information was given by the White House on Friday Good morning AmericaCorrespondent Mary Bruce admits:

But, of course, all this comes when Americans here at home are beginning to feel this economic collapse from this war. Prices continue to rise, especially at the pump. And President Vladimir Putin is trying to blame it brutally, saying that the pain that Americans are feeling and will continue to feel is part of the quote, “Putin inflation.” But Republicans quickly noticed that Americans were seeing record-high inflation before Putin started the war.

Despite knowing the truth from one of his own reporters and his own analysts, NBC’s Today The show still chooses to mislead its viewers by mistakenly claiming that the war in Ukraine is a “major contributor” and a “driving force” behind the massive inflation and rising gas prices over the past few months. The Biden White House is spreading lies in the name of falsehood.

7:08 AM ET

Savannah Guthrie: Well, at home here, the damage from the war is having a greater impact on the US economy. With rising inflation and gas prices, Americans are paying more. NBC’s Morgan Chesky joins us for that part of the story. Morgan, good morning.

Morgan Chesky: Yes, Savannah, good morning. And you don’t have to look far to find a product that is affected by this latest report. We’re at a real market dinner in Dallas. They tell me they spend 20 to 50% more on each item on their menu. Eggs have increased dramatically compared to last year. And for breakfast lovers we have some tough news because Bacon has seen the sharpest spike of any product in the last year. And at the moment there is no clear end to when this wave will stop.

[ON-SCREEN HEADLINE: U.S. Inflation Hits 40-Year High]

This morning, the number of new inflation confirms the struggle facing millions of Americans.

Unknown person [RESTAURANT OWNER]: Something new every week. It’s beef prices, it’s production, it’s avocados, it’s takeout containers. Now fuel.

Chesky: Fuel, food and shelter are the biggest drivers behind the highest inflation in four decades. The Consumer Price Index report shows an increase of 7.9% over last year. And in Washington, the Biden administration acknowledges that it could get worse before it gets worse, blaming Putin’s war in Ukraine as a major contributor.

Joe Biden: The American people know how important this fight is. I think they know that the cost is going to be even higher if we don’t take action now to deal with this oppressor who is as painful as today’s price.

Chesky: Many families are already feeling the pinch, the cost of rent has gone up.

Anonymous female [RENTER]: Our rent has gone up. Our rent has only changed from 650 to 800.

Chesky: And when it comes to filling, the national average of gallons of gas hits a staggering 33 4.33. A new AAA survey found that for most Americans, $ 4 per gallon is the tipping point where people begin to change their eating habits. While others –

Unknown person b [GAS STATION CUSTOMER]: I don’t even want to know now, don’t look. I just filled the car.

Chesky: Grocery staples are almost all a steady growth. A gallon of milk costs 50 cents, a dozen eggs 40 cents more and bacon more than বছরের 1.30 more than last year. Beyond the Butcher in Dallas, each is adding a little extra.

Rafael Andrade [BEYOND THE BUTCHER]: Beef and pork, it will charge $ 3.50 for pork.

Chesky: Veteran chef Rafael Andre is ordering as much as possible with love margin slipping. So the price of this filly cheesesteak remains the same, but what about the price?

ANDRADE: Costs have gone up.

Chesky: In what?

ANDRADE: From everything, man. From mushrooms, even from marinades, onions, peppers, bread.

Chesky: More expensive food, fuel and shelter in a frustrating recipe for the days ahead. And there are some important issues in this latest report. The increase in prices that we are seeing was due to the fuel consumption within a few days. So when we look at the March report coming out, experts say that inflation will rise further, possibly exceeding eight. Savannah?

Guthrie: All right, Morgan Chesky in Dallas for us. Thank you, Morgan.
